Welcome!

Oregon will celebrate its 150th birthday in the year 2009. The theme of this milestone celebration is: Sustain the Spirit! Planning for this big event has already begun across the state, including special events and activities at Oregon’s seven public universities.

Each of the OUS institutions will be involved in celebrating Oregon’s birthday with its respective communities, offering special events, programs, classes, arts and music, museum exhibits, community outreach by students and faculty, and much more.

Oregon Stories

Do you have a special memory of your time at an Oregon University System campus? If so, Please share your campus Oregon Story with your fellow Oregonians. No one knows Oregon like you, and your memories of the "old days" will help others recall special times in their lives. Share with us a story about Oregon that you cherish-the way things used to be, or what you hope they can become. Tell us about hardships that you’ve faced. Tell us a joke. Tell us what you would like other Oregonians to know and to remember.

Then, we'll share the best stories with you. Starting in September 2008 and continuing every week throughout the year, we'll share your Oregon Stories with the whole state on TV, radio and the web. Stories about any of the OUS universities will also be posted on this OUS site, as well as the campus site related to the story.

Take Care of Oregon

Take Care of Oregon, or TCO, is an opportunity for Oregonians to come together in order to tend and mend the Beaver State. You can clear trails, paint schools, plant trees or lend a hand in any of the many other service projects aimed at beautifying this already beautified land—and getting to know your fellow community members even better. For more information, go to the Oregon 150 website. The Universities will be working to get students and faculty involved in these projects as well, through Capstone Projects and other community engagement work. We’ll feature these efforts on this website.

Oregon Youth Legacy Projects

It’s fun to remember where we’ve come from, but it’s just as important to consider where we’re going. The Oregon Youth Legacy Project will bring tomorrow’s leaders together today and invite them to envision the changes they wish to see in the world over the next 50 years. Then, we’ll set off preserving our future by rallying youth from across the state to rehabilitate parks throughout Oregon. For more information, go to the Oregon 150 website.
