Location: This position is located in Portland, Oregon.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term professional position.  Reappointment is at the discretion of the OUS Chief Risk Officer.  This position provides support in the creation and ongoing implementation of the OUS Risk Management function as relates to Senate Bill 242 in the 2011-13 Oregon Legislative session.  This includes providing support in the tracking, analysis and assessment of risk financing efforts including but not limited to risk transfer, risk retention including allocation of costs among the campuses, risk controls including support in design and development of policies and procedures, training of and monitoring the policies and procedures and effectiveness of same.

This position provides risk analysis of all programs associated with the risk management function including workers’ compensation, property and casualty lines including educators’ legal liability, cyber, pollution, auto, student health & accident, foreign liability, and special events activities.  Additional implementation of a Risk Management Information System or RMIS will be required, and this position will manage it on an OUS system-wide basis.  This position will also support collaborative efforts with university risk officers and other key colleagues in establishing and implementing a risk culture with centralized consistency among the campuses. 

MINIMUM (REQUIRED) QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, or other with sufficient math and statistics to manage the data and reporting requirements.
  • Experience in financial analysis including forecasting and modeling.
  • Experience in working with a wide variety of people at all levels.

SPECIAL (PREFERRED) QUALIFICATIONS

  • MS, BS or MBA including finance, economics, statistics, accounting, or other related field.
  • Professional credentials relating to position including ARM, CRM.
  • Minimum of 3-years working experience or equivalent with risk management, risk control, quality assessments, or claims and litigation experience preferred.
  • Experience in evaluating claims, actuarial reports, and forecasting of premiums and ultimate losses.
  • Experience in identifying and conducting risk assessments for a broad variety of exposures including but not limited to:  general liability, international travel, environmental health & safety.
  • Risk management experience in a university setting.
  • Critical thinking regarding the broad perspective of activities within the risk function.
  • Knowledge of public sector practices.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management concepts.
  • Knowledge of database tracking and management.
  • Experience in budgeting and financing.
