Title: Science Education Writer
This is an academic wage appointment that will end November 30, 2012
Salary: $24-$32 per hour, depending on experience
Location: This position is located in Portland, Oregon.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION
Develop set of three documents referred to as primers. These primers will be used by elementary, middle and high school teachers as a tutorial and reference as part of a professional development program. The subject of the primers will be how to use of the engineering design process to enhance the learning of science consistent with the Oregon Science Standards. The primers will contribute to the goals of the program as a whole and will complement other elements of the program, including a set of training materials that will be used to hold teacher workshops and a sample set of exercises that students can use to learn science content using the engineering design process.
MINIMUM (REQUIRED) QUALIFICATIONS
- Five years experience in designing and writing educational materials with an emphasis on K12 science education or teaching science at the middle-school or high-school level.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in education with minor or equivalent in a science discipline; a bachelor’s degree in science or engineering and a master’s degree in education; or similar educational background.
SPECIAL (PREFERRED) QUALIFICATIONS
- Five years of experience teaching science at the middle-school or high-school level and five years experience designing and writing educational materials
- Experience in teaching or writing about engineering or technology or experience as a practicing scientist or engineer.
- Published articles or equivalent on the subject of science education.
