Student Success Initiatives

The Office of Student Success Initiatives, within the Academic Strategies department, develops, implements, and manages policies and services that lead to successful preparation, admission, retention, and graduation of students at the seven OUS institutions. Student Success Initiative staff members work closely with staff from the OUS campuses, the Department of Education, Oregon Community College and Workforce Development, and K-12 and community college districts and institutions on collaborative programs, strategies, and projects aimed to foster student success throughout the K-16 educational pipeline. The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Success Initiatives serves as a liaison with several OUS system-wide administrative groups, including registrars, financial aid directors, admissions directors, enrollment managers and senior student affairs officers.

The staff members of Student Success Initiatives are responsible for communicating with Oregon's high school and community college counselors and advisors regarding student-related policies and services related to areas such as admission, residency, and financial aid. Staff members provide system-wide Counselor Resources such as the OUS Viewbook, the Counselor Handbook, OUS Visitations to high schools, Counselor Conferences and related projects. Information for students and families is available in the Prospective Students section of the OUS website, including resources on admissions and residency, costs and financial aid, transfer student resources, veteran resources, and other information.

Student Success Initiatives manages a number of K-16 Alignment Programs to enhance alignment across the three educational sectors, including policy proposals, training and outreach, fostering of partnerships, and technological aspects of programs. The department also includes the College Access Programs office which houses two federally funded programs, Oregon GEAR UP: Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, and the College Access Challenge Grant (CACG) Program, which work in concert to increase the number of traditionally underrepresented and low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in college.
