Oregon Lincoln Bicentennial Commission Activities (OLBC)
In 2000, Congress passed Public Law 106-173 establishing a national Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission (ALBC) to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. Each state was asked to appoint a liaison to assist in the national celebration and to generate activities marking the bicentennial across the nation.
Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski appointed Michael Burton as the Oregon representative to the ALBC. The Oregon Lincoln Bicentennial (OLBC) was subsequently formed to carry-out celebratory and educational activities in Oregon.
The mission of the OLBC is:
To increase the knowledge and awareness of Abraham Lincoln in the State of Oregon and to encourage research, scholarship and an increased understanding of Lincoln around the themes of democracy and equal opportunity
