Oregon’s public universities & community colleges offer free events for middle school students and families   

WHAT:   College: Yes You Can / Universidad: Sí Se Puede   Middle school students and their families are invited to join representatives from Oregon’s public community colleges and universities for a free, fun bilingual event designed to inspire and prepare youth for college.  Registration is now open for half-day events in La Grande, Albany, and Medford, which will offer information on college and career options, tips on how to prepare for and afford college, and free lunch and refreshments. Registration required.   • Albany, Saturday, May 21, 2011, 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., Linn Benton Community College, Calapooia Center, 6500 Southwest Pacific Blvd. Albany, Oregon.
  • La Grande, Saturday, June 4, check in at 9:00, event from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Eastern Oregon University, Quinn Coliseum, 1 University Blvd, LaGrande, Oregon.
  • Medford, Saturday, June 4, check in at 9:00, event from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., Rogue Community College/Southern Oregon University Higher Education Center, 101 S. Bartlett, Medford, Oregon.

WHO: FREE to middle school students and their families. Free lunch and refreshments will be provided, and presentations will be in both English and Spanish.

WHERE: BACKGROUND:   Oregon public universities and community colleges have partnered in new Middle School Outreach Consortium to provide college outreach to middle school students to encourage all Oregon youth to pursue and prepare for college in Oregon, with a special focus on historically underrepresented student populations. The Middle School Outreach Consortium is hosting 4 family events across Oregon as a pilot project, in Portland, Albany, Medford, and La Grande.  Colleges participating in the Middle School Outreach Consortium currently include Chemeketa Community College (CC),  Clackamas CC, Eastern Oregon University, Linn Benton CC, Mt. Hood CC, Oregon Institute of Technology, Oregon Health and Science University, Oregon State University, Portland CC, Portland State University, Rogue CC, Southern Oregon University, University of Oregon, and Western Oregon University.
