Howard F. Sohn, Roseburg, was appointed to the Oregon State Board of Higher Education in January 2004.

Howard Sohn is currently Chairman of the Board of Lone Rock Timber Company in Roseburg, Oregon. From 1990 to 2001, he was president of Sun Studs, Inc., and president of Lone Rock Timber Company in Roseburg. He sees public higher education as critical to Oregon's economy and society, and has expressed a long-standing interest in higher education and a desire to help find solutions.

Prior to 1990, he served in corporate management at Pfizer, Inc., in New York City, assistant professor at Mount Holyoke College and at Newton College in Newton, Massachusetts. He has served as a member and chair of the Oregon Board of Forestry and member and chair of the Forest Research Laboratory Advisory Committee at Oregon State University.

Sohn holds a BA from Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, CA, an MA from Manhattan College in New York, NY, and a PhD from Fordham University in New York City.

His term expires in 2009.
