Governor Nominates New Member for State Board of Higher Ed
SALEM -Kerry E. Barnett, a Portland health services administrator, has been nominated by Gov. John Kitzhaber to serve on the Oregon State Board of Higher Education.
Subject to confirmation by the Oregon Senate, Barnett will begin a four-year term on the Board in February. He succeeds Jim Willis of Salem whose term expired in June.
Barnett is a vice president of professional services for ODS Health Plans, an integrated health services corporation.
Before joining ODS in 1999, Barnett, an attorney, served as chief executive officer of HealthFirst Medical Group, P.C., as director the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services, and as legal counsel and senior policy advisor to former Governor Barbara Roberts.
Active in public service, Barnett currently serves as chair of the Oregon Health Plan Waiver Application Steering Committee, on the Oregon Medical Insurance Pool and Foundation of Medical Excellence board of directors an on the board of the Columbia Land Trust.
He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Rochester and Yale University Law School.
The State Board of Higher Education serves as the governing board of the Oregon University System. OUS campuses include Eastern Oregon University, La Grande; Oregon Institute of Technology, Klamath Falls; Oregon State University, Corvallis; Portland State University; Southern Oregon University, Ashland; the University of Oregon, Eugene; and Western Oregon University, Monmouth.
