Investment Double-header Workshop Coming to Bend
PORTLAND - A special two-seminar workshop to help Central Oregonians learn more about business investment and meet others interested in financially supporting new business ventures is coming to Bend.
The two seminars, to be held simultaneously from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001 at the Inn of the Seventh Mountain, are part of a series organized by the Central Oregon Investor Network. One is aimed angel investors and will focus on "Seed Investing as a Team Sport." The second, for entrepreneurs, is titled "Swing for the Fences," and will offer a candid view of how seed investors think, choose their investments and work with entrepreneurs.
"I'm enthusiastic about these highly interactive workshops," says Robert Newhart, chief executive officer of the Oregon Innovation Center (OiC), one of the co-sponsors for the program. "They will bring some of the most knowledgeable people on these subjects to Oregon."
The workshops will showcase the latest business investment tools and techniques. Among discussion topics will be how professional investors estimate a young company's market value; the negotiation and pricing of a deal, and what investors expect from companies in which they choose to make investments.
"If there were ever a win-win situation - helping angels improve their investing and mentoring skills and teaching entrepreneurs how to better plan their businesses - this is it," Newman says.
Attendance is limited to 50 persons. Registration before Sept. 10 is $129 per person; $149 per person after Sept. 10. Information on registration may be obtained from OiC at 541-317-0049, or from the OiC web site at www.innovationcenter.org.
Cosponsors for the event include OiC, the Software Association of Oregon, Iron Bridge Group LLP, the Oregon Department of Economic and Community Development, Southern Oregon University, the Oregon University System, and U. S. Trust, Portland.
