Chancellor Hospitalized After Surgery
EUGENE - Joe Cox, the chancellor of the Oregon University System, remains hospitalized here today following cardiac surgery Saturday night, Sept. 8.
Cox was admitted to Sacred Heart Hospital, Eugene, after experiencing pains in his arm. He underwent surgery to remove blockage in two arteries. Hospital officials described his condition as good.
Cox had been working outdoors at his home prior to his illness.
"We're grateful to the staff at Sacred Heart Hospital for the care and quick attention they have provided to Chancellor Cox, " said Don VanLuvanee, president of the Oregon State Board of Higher Education. "Our thoughts are with Chancellor Cox and his family. We're hopeful of a full recovery."
Cox, 64, recently announced plans to step aside from his position as head of Oregon's seven campus public university system within a year.
