OUS Hires Outstanding Communications Expert
PORTLAND - The Oregon University System (OUS) announced today that it has hired Diane Saunders as its Director
of Communications, effective November 18, 2002.
"Diane brings tremendous experience to this position," said Chancellor Richard Jarvis. "Her background
and record of accomplishment in strategic communications and media relations will be invaluable to us as we work
to communicate effectively with Oregon's citizens and its leaders."
Until July of this year, Saunders was the vice president for communications and public affairs for the Nellie Mae
Education Foundation in Quincy, MA. In this role, her responsibilities included developing and implementing strategic
communication campaigns, acting as the primary spokesperson and working with the Board of Directors to position
the Foundation. Prior to joining the Foundation, she held positions with the Nellie Mae Higher Education Financing
Corporation and the Ministry of Local Government and Lands and the Ministry of Education in Botswana, Africa. She
holds a B.A. in English from Portland State University and a M.S. in Communications from Simmons College.

and public affairs. "She is an exciting addition to the Oregon University System's leadership team."
The OUS Director of Communications primary responsibilities include providing leadership to the development, management
and implementation of OUS communications strategies; serving as the media spokesperson for OUS; and overseeing
creation of all OUS materials intended for external audiences including the presence of OUS on the Web. Saunders
replaces Bob Bruce who left OUS in August to be Vice President at the University of Las Vegas Reno.
