    <description>The Oregon University System wants to ensure that all eligible dependents of veterans are aware of a new tuition benefit that begins today, Spring Term 2008, and which was approved by the Oregon Legislature in the February 2008 Supplemental Session. The benefit provides a full tuition waiver for a bachelor’s or master’s degree at an OUS institution for a child or spouse of a member of the United States Armed Forces who either died in active duty, became 100% disabled in connection with military service, or died as a result of a disability sustained in active duty after September 11, 2001.</description>

    <description>Governor Kulongoski’s State Board of Higher Education appointments of Eastern Oregon University associate professor Rosemary Powers, and Southern Oregon University student Brian Fox, were confirmed last week by the Oregon State Senate, and are effective today. Powers will fill a new faculty position on the Board for a 2-year term, and Fox will serve a 2-year term, replacing Board member Adriana Mendoza, an MBA student at EOU who has served on the Board since 2004.</description>

September 2007 after a six month battle with breast cancer, and who led OIT as president for 9 years. OIT provost David Woodall has been serving in the role as acting president since late spring of 2007.</description>

    <description>The Oregon University System announced today that the Engineering & Technology Industry Council (ETIC) has awarded a total of $390,000 in “Pre-College Grants” toward efforts to improve the pipeline of highly skilled engineering and technology students in K-12 and postsecondary education across the state. The grants will fund six model programs sponsored by Oregon public colleges, universities and school districts to expand the state’s ability to motivate and prepare students for success in engineering and high technology careers.</description>

    <description>The Oregon University System announced today that a record high enrollment of 82,249 students was reached for fall 2007. While the enrollment increase is still moderate at 1.5% over last fall, almost 1,250 more students were enrolled at the 4th week of the fall term, compared with an increase of only 114 students last year. The increase this fall is the largest in the OUS since the 1.9% increase seen in 2003, and represents the largest entering freshman class in its history. </description>
