Presenter Biographies

Beth Blakesley is the Assistant Dean of Libraries at Washington State University, Pullman.  She earned her MLS from Indiana University in 1993 and has worked at WSU since 2003.  Prior to coming west, Beth held reference and instruction positions at Indiana State University and UMASS Dartmouth.

Steve Borrelli is the Instructional Design Librarian at Washington State University.  He is the designer and administrator of the Information Literacy Education learning environment.  Additionally, his duties include creating and maintaining online tutorials, and serving as webmaster for the Instruction Department's website.   He also teaches Gen. Ed 300 Accessing Information and Research as well as information literacy and bibliographic instruction classes to a wide variety of campus partner programs.

Laurie M. Bridges is Oregon State University Libraries' Business and Economics Librarian. She is OSUL mobile team project chair and is attached at the hip to her Blackberry.

Stefanie Buck is the Instructional Design/Social Sciences librarian at Oregon State University. She has a MLS from the University of Hawai'i.

Al Cornish is the Head, Library Systems at the Washington State University Libraries.  He recently served as a member of the Orbis Cascade Alliance's Summit migration implementation team, which supported the migration to OCLC's WorldCat Navigator software. 

Anne-Marie Dietering is the Franklin McEdward Professor for Undergraduate Learning Initiatives at OSU Libraries.  She is part of the libraries' Instruction Workgroup, the Learning Commons team, and she works on a variety of special projects and task forces. She speaks and writes frequently about the intersections between student engagement, information literacy and the participatory web.

Hannah Gascho Rempel is Oregon State University Libraries' Biosciences Librarian and Graduate Student Services Coordinator. She is a member of OSUL mobile team and is Zen-like in her refusal to own a cell phone.

Kimberly Griggs is Oregon State University Libraries' programmer. She is the designer and developer for OSUL mobile project and can't live without her iPhone.

Darci Hanning has a BSEE from Washington State University (Pullman) and received her MLIS from the University of Washington. She brings over 20 years of software and web application development experience to her position as the Technology Development Consultant at the Oregon State Library. For the past four years she has been using Plone, an open source software content management system, to create and deploy dynamic, easy-to-maintain websites for small libraries in Oregon. Since Spring 2006, she has been providing technical leadership for the Plinkit Collaborative, a multi-state cooperative to deploy Plinkit throughout the United States. Ms. Hanning has presented on both Plone and Plinkit at national and international conferences, recently served as President of the Plone Foundation Board, is a contributing author to "Practical Plone 3: A Beginner's Guide to Building Powerful Websites", and was selected as a "2008 Mover and Shaker" by Library Journal.

Jon Jablonski (University of Washington MLIS 2002; University of Oregon MA 2009) is MAP/GIS Librarian at the University of Oregon since 2004.

Anna Johnson is a librarian and instructor at Mt Hood Community College in Gresham, where she designs and delivers more than 100 presentations each year. Her students have told Anna that she reminds them of Rachael Ray; she’s decided that’s a good thing, although she’d rather be compared to Alton Brown.

Corey Johnson is Head of Library Instruction at Washington State University.  He is interested in all aspects of information literacy education.

Tricia Juettemeyer is Reference Librarian at the Art Institute of Portland. She teaches information literacy across the design school curriculum, including presentations on copyright, multimedia resources, and the (in)visible web. Additionally, she is the library webmaster and provides research assistance to students, faculty, and staff. Tricia received her MLIS from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Jen Klaudinyi is coordinating the Cooperative Library Instruction project out of Western Oregon University and creating sharable information literacy tutorials. She received her MSLS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009 and is excited to explore information literacy and its relationship to college/university curriculums and opportunities for library service innovation and outreach.

Dawn Lowe-Wincentsen is the Portland Operations librarian at the Oregon Institute of Technology. She graduated with her MLIS from Louisiana State University in 2003, though she has been in libraries since her first job as a student assistant in the library at Linfield College in 1996. Dawn has authored various works including co-authoring "A Leadership Primer for New Librarians: Tools for helping today's early career librarians become tomorrow's library leaders" (2009).

Dan McClure is the Director of Library Services at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland where (among other duties) he often assists teachers and students in their pursuit of images for various purposes. Dan received his MLIS from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and his BS in Journalism from the University of Oregon.

Alex Merrill has been with the Washington State University Libraries since 2005. In his current role as Systems/Operations Manager, he supports and coordinates the work of the desktop support group that resides within the WSU Library Systems Unit. The Systems/Operations Group has the responsibility of supporting 400+ computers for both public and library personnel use. In his role as Digital Initiatives Librarian, Alex manages the WSU Libraries CONTENTdm installation and corresponding server software and hardware. He also acts as the technical point person on an array of on-going digital projects and performs training and support duties as needed for the on-going digitization of library materials. He is also technical lead for the local installation of Metalib (SearchIt!@WSU).

Claire Murata has been the Information Literacy Librarian at the Shoreline Community College since 2007.  She earned her MLIS from the Information School at the University of Washington in 2001.

Jane Nichols has worked as the Social Sciences/Humanities Librarian at Oregon State University Libraries since November, 2003. She is a member of the OSU Libraries' Research and Innovative Services Team and the Usability Team.

Matthew “Buzzy” Nielsen has worked in public, academic, and school libraries for over ten years. He has dual master's degrees in Information and Public Policy from the University of Michigan and is currently Assistant Director at the North Bend Public Library on the southern Oregon coast. His interests include rural library development, the economics of libraries, open source software in libraries, and information technology policy.

Barbara O'Neill is currently the Reference Program Supervisor at Washington County Cooperative Library Services, where she works to coordinate cooperative ventures, inspire innovation, and train public services staff in the use of electronic resources. She has been at WCCLS for 12 years. She has also worked at the Oregon State Library, the (now defunct) Oregon Legislative Research Library, the University of Oregon Library, and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Learning Resource Center. In her other life she is restoring her home.

Sean Park has been employed as network administrator for the Coos County Library Service District since 2001. Prior to that he was an aircraft maintenance technician in the military and civilian sector. Holding several Cisco and Microsoft certifications, his interests include Windows, Linux and networking systems security and administration.

Liz Paulus serves as an Adult Services Reference Librarian at Cedar Mill Community Library in Portland. In addition to providing reference services both in person and online, she is responsible for various technology projects including website management, electronic resources selection and promotion, as well as collection development in reference, science and technology. Liz has a bachelor's degree in Geology and received her MLS from Emporia State University in 2004.

Robin Paynter (University of Wisconsin-Madison MA-LIS 1993). Currently employed at Portland State University Library (2004-), she has also worked at the University of Oregon Libraries (1994-2003), and University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries while a student. She has utilized a number of research methodologies, including: usability evaluation, surveys, and focus groups, to understand users’ needs and perceptions of searching library websites. Working on a web log analysis is a natural progression in this long term project, and collaborating with colleagues in the Orbis-Cascade Research Interest Group to compare and contrast results across institutional types has been illuminating.

Nicholas Schiller is a member of the WSU library faculty working in both systems and public services. He teaches in the Digital Technology & Culture (DTC) program and is the liaison for DTC, Computer Science, and Engineering. His research areas include games and pedagogy, information literacy instruction, and digital media.

Anjanette Young is Systems Librarian at University of Washington Libraries.  She is currently working with DSpace, Django, Plone and III, but often would rather be kayaking.

Laura Zeigen, MA, MLIS, has worked at the Oregon Health & Science University Library since 1997, currently in the position of systems & web development librarian. She has been trying to wrestle web logs into submission since then. She also, with Robin Paynter, co-founded the Orbis Cascade Alliance Research Interest Group.

Lihong Zhu is the head of Technical Services at Washington State University Libraries. She has presented and published on various topics including cataloging and electronic resources.
