Presenter Biographies

Robin Ashford is the Reference & Distance Services Librarian at George Fox University, Portland Center. She works primarily with graduate students online and from her university’s Portland Center. She earned her MSLIS from UIUC in December 2003.

Laura DeGeer Baca is a Reference Librarian at Cedar Mill Community Library. She has worked at Cedar Mill Community Library since 2007. She still reads most of her books on paper.

Valerie Bagley is Assistant Director, Residential Programs and Assessment in University Housing at Western Oregon University. She co-coordinates the First-Year Experience (FYE) Seminar program for the university. Her responsibilities include teaching, recruiting instructors, developing the program, and marketing to new students. This work has connected her with the digital repository at WOU and her co-presenter Erin Passehl.

Ian Barba is the Research & Development Librarian at Texas Tech University Libraries. His research interests include programming, web design, and technologies to improve library services.

Shelley Barba is the Metadata Librarian atTexas Tech University Libraries. Her research interests include automatic metadata creation, content interface design, and branding library user experiences.

Michael Bowman is the Interim Assistant University Librarian, and Engineering Librarian at Portland State University. He has worked at PSU since 1992.

Laurie Bridges is Instruction and Emerging Technologies Librarian at Oregon State University Libraries. She loves her Nook.

Sara Brownmiller is the Director of Library Systems at the University of Oregon. She has worked at the University of Oregon Libraries since 1987. She has a long interest in how people use technology to access information.

Stefanie Buck is Instructional Design and Ecampus Librarian at Oregon State University Libraries. Her research interests include Web-scale discovery systems and distance learning.

Anneliese Dehner is the Digital Projects Developer at Watzek Library, Lewis & Clark College. She is the designer and co-developer of digital initiatives projects at Watzek. She likes to knit and ride her bike.

Anne-Marie Deitering is the Franklin McEdward Professor for Undergraduate Learning Initiatives at Oregon State University Libraries. She has been in her current post at OSU Libraries since 2008. Her research examines the intersections between information literacy, emerging technologies, and student engagement.

Mike Flakus is the Lead Web Programmer for the PSU Library. He has developed custom library-specific web applications for the last 5 years.

Susan Gilman is a Librarian at the University of Oregon Portland Library and Learning Commons. She manages access services, provides instructional support, and creates outreach projects.

Emily Glenn is a Librarian at the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute. Her research interests include collaboration tools and techniques for scientists, portal design, scholarly communications, and information literacy. Emily is the immediate past president of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of SLA. She received her MSLS from the School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel in 2005.

Jennifer Simon Halai is the Future Services Librarian for the King County Library System. She is a public librarian, info activist and global adventuress. She’s also one of the voices behind @KCLS on Twitter!

Amy Hofer is the Distance Learning Librarian at Portland State University. By night she is a fiddler and square dance caller.

Uta Hussong-Christian is an Instruction Librarian at Oregon State University Libraries. She loves reading on her mobile devices and from “old-fashioned” print books.

David Isaak is the Digital Projects Librarian at Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research. Hehappily moved back to Oregon earlier this year. Before that, he was the Digital Collections Librarian at Haverford College for three years.

Ken Kato is the Assistant Director of the Infographics Lab at the University of Oregon.

Amy Maule is a Research Analyst at CH2M HILL. After 15 year in traditional libraries, she now works with a high-tech engineering group and serves as president of the Oregon chapter of SLA.

Jeremy McWilliams is the Digital Services Coordinator at Watzek Library, Lewis & Clark College. He develops web applications and supports library systems at Watzek. He likes running and mountain biking.

Margaret Mellinger is Associate Professor and Engineering Librarian at Oregon State University Libraries. She has been at OSU since 2003. Her research interests include how technology can help users connect with library information.

Emily Miller-Francisco is the e-Resource Systems and Web Coordinator at Southern Oregon University. She works to ensure access to electronic resources at the Hannon Library. She also designs and manages the Library’s website.

Grant Miller-Francisco is a GIS Analyst at Sky Research, an environmental remediation company. He maps unexploded ordnance using remote sensing technologies.

Karen Munro is Head of the University of Oregon Portland Library and Learning Commons. Previously, she was the E-Learning Librarian at UC Berkeley, and Literature Librarian at the UO in Eugene.

Jane Nichols is Collection Development Librarian, Oregon State University Libraries. She loves reading on her Kindle and other devices.

Erin Passehl is the Digital Collections/Metadata Librarian and Archivist at Western Oregon University. She manages the university archives, exhibits, and library technical services, and is implementing the university’s first digital repository for archival and scholarly content. She is an active member in Northwest Archivists and serves on the steering team for Northwest Digital Archives.

Kimberly Pendell is the Social Sciences Librarian at Portland State University. She joined PSU in late 2010. Previously, she attended UT-Austin for graduate school, then worked as a librarian in Chicago and as a volunteer in Zambia.

Joy Perrin is the Research & Development Librarian at Texas Tech University Libraries. Her research interests include library usability testing, digital collections, semantic web, and future library trends.

Terry Reese is the Gray Family Chair for Innovative Library Services at Oregon State University.

Monique Sendze is Associate Director of Information Technology at Douglas County Libraries. She has contributed to IT management articles in various library publications and oversees IT, the contact center and Web and virtual services.

Rick Stoddart, MLIS, Masters in Communication Studies, is an on-call Reference Librarian at Western Oregon University. Hutch Tibbetts is the Digital Resources Librarian at Douglas County Libraries. He manages online collections and digital services, helped launch the library's mobile app, and is on the library's eContent strategy taskforce.

Laura Torgersen is a Reference Assistant at Cedar Mill Community Library. She firmly believes her addiction to graphic novels and the post-apocalyptic genre will help her survive a zombie uprising.

Alyssa Vincent is an MLS student at Emporia State University and a student library assistant at University of Oregon Portland Library and Learning Commons.

Evviva Weinraub is the Director of Emerging Technologies & Services at Oregon State University Libraries. She thinks Kobo is a great tool.

Brian Westra is the Lorry Lokey Science Data Services Librarian at the University of Oregon. He consults with faculty on their NSF data management plans, supports data curation initiatives, and is the chemistry librarian at the University of Oregon.

Jackie Wirz is Biomedical Sciences Information Specialist and Assistant Professor at Oregon Health & Science University. She has a PhD in Biochemistry and is the resident science geek at the OHSU Library. She believes in evolution, salted caramel buttercream and Jane Eyre.

Laura Zeigen, MA, MLIS is the User Experience Librarian at Oregon Health & Science University. She has worked at the OHSU Library since 1997, for many years in Systems and web development and currently in Instruction, Research and Outreach.
