OUS institutions offer a wide variety of teacher preparation programs. The Educational Policy and Inclusion Department works with statewide education partners and campus programs on a variety of initiatives designed to support the Board's education priority areas and to address the state's needs in teacher shortage areas.

The Educational Policy and Inclusion Department publishes an online Advising Guide to assist pre-college, community college, college, and university students, advisors, and faculties in understanding the admission and program requirements in becoming an educator in Oregon. The Department also develops and coordinates policy directives related to teacher education.

  This Guide is designed to help students know where to start, what is involved, how to get involved, and who to contact about becoming an Oregon teacher. The Guide provides answers to many of the frequently asked questions regarding teacher preparation pathways and requirements, and directs students to the appropriate contact persons on Oregon 2-year and 4-year campuses for additional information and advice.

System-wide Projects

• Oregon Network for Education (Oregon One)
• Read Oregon (formerly CREADE): A collaborative project to provide graduate-level literacy courses for teachers and a reading endorsement via distance education.
• No Child Left Behind University/School Partnerships (USP) Provides grants for K-12 teacher and principal recruitment, induction, and professional development support through K-16 partnerships.
• Oregon Teacher Recruitment & Mentoring (OTRM): A Transition to Teaching project that provides stipends and mentoring to qualifying teacher candidates preparing to work in high-need schools.
