A regular meeting of the State Board of Higher Education will be held on Friday, October 20, 2000. Prior to this meeting, the Board's Budget and Finance and System Strategic Planning Committees will convene. On Thursday, October 19, a meeting of the Joint Budget and Finance/System Strategic Planning Committee is scheduled. All meetings will take place on the campus of Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon, in accordance with the times, locations, and schedules listed below:

Thursday, October 19, 2000
3:30-5 p.m. Joint Budget and Finance/System Strategic Planning Committee
Rogue River Rooms A/D, Stevenson Union

The purpose of the meeting is to review the final staff recommendations of the statewide engineering objectives and capital construction as it relates to them.

Friday, October 20, 2000
7-8 a.m. Executive Session
Room 306, Stevenson Union

This session, from which the public is excluded, is held pursuant to ORS 192.660(1)(a), for the purpose of discussing personnel matters. Pursuant to ORS 192.660(3), representatives of the news media will be allowed to attend, but the Board requires that the discussions and any reports received in the executive session be undisclosed.

8-9:45 a.m. Budget and Finance Committee
Rogue River Rooms A/D, Stevenson Union

The Committee will review two action items, including a phase-one engineering building renovation and an apartment purchase for student housing, both at PSU. Slated on the consent calendar is a UO Gilbert Hall addition and remodel. With that will come an addendum to the 2001-2007 Capital Construction budget, which was approved in July by the Board. Southern Oregon University also intends to name two buildings within the new Center for the Visual Arts, on which the Committee will receive a report.

8-9:45 a.m. System Strategic Planning Committee
Room 319, Stevenson Union

The purpose of the meeting is to consider grievance process options for the Board. On the consent calendar is the confirmation of institutional degree lists. An annual report on grievances filed under OAR 580-021-0050 will also be presented. A follow up discussion on the October 6 conference call meeting relating to refinement of the Board's strategic goals for 2000-01 is planned as well.

On Thursday, October 19, several Board members will participate in a campus visitation, which is hosted by Southern Oregon University. The visitation includes an open forum from 2:30-3 p.m. in Stevenson Union, Rogue River Rooms B/C, to which faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend. A reception for Board members will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Center for the Visual Arts.
