A meeting of the Oregon State Board of Higher Education's Investment Committee will convene on Thursday, September 20, 2001. A new Board member orientation and an Education Joint Boards Working Group meeting will convene on Friday, September 21, 2001. In addition, a follow-up meeting from the July 2001 Board self-study workshop will convene on Friday, September 28, 2001. All meetings will take place in accordance with the time and locations listed below:

The purpose of the meeting is to revisit the Investment Policy language; hear a report by T. Rowe Price on the foreign equity portion of the OUS endowment; receive a presentation by R.V. Kuhns on alternative investments; and review the fourth quarter investment report.

8-11 a.m. New Board Member Orientation

The orientation will give new Board members a chance to learn more about the System and the Board, including history, processes and procedures, and Board member duties. All Board members are encouraged to attend this session, but those who are relatively new to the Board would particularly benefit from this comprehensive System overview.

Meeting topics for the Education Joint Boards Working Group will include a discussion of follow-up to House Bill 2015; an Oregon Progress Board update on education issues; discussion on responses to workforce shortages; a report on the community college faculty shortage, and CIM/PASS progress.

The purpose of the meeting is to follow up on the issues raised at the July 20, 2001, Board Self-Study Workshop (created and facilitated by the Association of Governing Boards). Specifically, the Board will work to determine the most appropriate processes to use to prepare for the activities of the Oregon Post-Secondary Education Opportunity Commission concerning budget preparation and governance models for Oregon higher Education. The Board will also begin a discussion of the process to be used in the search for a new chancellor. The draft process will be presented for public input and adoption at the October meeting of the Board. Terrance MacTaggart, former chancellor of the University of Maine System and facilitator of the July 20 Self-Study Workshop, will facilitate the meeting.
