Congratulation on getting your transfer started! This page will give you information on the common transfer admissions requirements for all Oregon University System institutions.  Besides the general requirements for all OUS institutions, some are campus-specific. Admission requirements such as grade point average and application policies and procedures vary by campus, and some academic programs have specific requirements too, so if you have your heart set on a certain campus or program, start learning about its requirements now before you apply. The Transfer Students section offers many links and resources to help you plan.

Transfer Student General Admission Requirements, 2013-14 and 2014-15 Academic Years

The requirements for entering an Oregon public university are detailed in the following policy and summarized below.

Transfer students are admitted to an Oregon public university on the basis of meeting an acceptable GPA on a minimum number of transferable credits.  First, check how many transferable credits you have, and your grade point average (GPA).  See Planning to Transfer for options on planning and determining transferable credits.

Students who have completed fewer than 12 transferable quarter credits should follow the Freshman Admission Requirements. Students who have completed between 12 and 36 quarter credit hours of college-level work (see university-specfic requirements in chart below) must meet both freshman and transfer admission requirements. Transfer students who graduated from high school in 1997 or after must complete two terms of a college-level Second Language with an average grade of C- or better, or meet the Freshman Second Language requirements. Be sure to contact the individual university and program of interest to get information on campus specific and program specific requirements and guidelines.

Make sure you are aware of priority Admission and Scholarship Deadlines listed in the OUS Viewbook, particularly if you want to be considered for need or merit-based financial aid and scholarships.  Honors Colleges and Programs have special admissions requirements and deadlines.  See campus websites for more information.

The chart below provides an overview of the minimum transfer requirements at each university. Special programs or majors may require additional requirements, so consult the most recent edition of the university’s general catalog or ask an admissions counselor for guidance. Academic performance is not the sole criterion for admission to an OUS university.

1Students with fewer than 12 transferable quarter credits (or 8 semester hours) must meet freshman admission requirements. Students with 12 of the minimum college credits required by the school must meet both freshman and transfer admission requirements.

2 Applicants who graduate with an Oregon Transfer Module or AAOT from an Oregon community college will be admitted with a 2.00 GPA.At OIT: Transfer applicants who hold an associate’s or bachelor’s degree will be admitted with a 2.00 GPA. At PSU: Applicants who hold a transferable associate’s will be admitted with a 2.00 GPA. At SOU: Applicants who obtain an associate’s degree from an approved partner institution will be admitted with a 2.00 GPA.

3 Courses required: OSU, UO, and WOU require Writing 121 or its equivalent with a grade of C- or better, and college algebra or higher with a grade of C- or better, or the equivalent of Math 105. PSU requires Writing 121 or its equivalent with a grade of C- or better. EOU requires successful completion of a minimum of two courses in sciences, social sciences, or humanities; college level writing and math are strongly recommended. OIT transfer applicants must demonstrate readiness for college level mathematics and writing, e.g., by completion of the equivalent of Math 95 Intermediate Algebra or higher and WR 115 Introduction to Writing (or higher) with grades C or better; applicants who do not have an associate’s or bachelor’s degree must have at least 33 college-level credits that are not in Physical Education. OSU requires the Insight Resume.

  • Academic Calendar, 2013-2018: This document lists academic term and year beginning and end dates for OUS campuses.
  • Admissions Fee.  Applicants must pay a $50 fee for each university to which they apply, but fee deferrals may be granted in some cases.
