Programs
Business Administration The BA/BS in Business Administration offers concentrations in Marketing, Leadership, Organization and Management, or Accounting. This is a professional program designed to prepare you for graduate school or entry-level positions in management, marketing, accounting, and finance. The program provides a theoretical framework of the business discipline with intensive education and practical experience in a concentration area. Business Economics The BA/BS in Business/Economics is a liberal arts program designed to give you a strong theoretical background in business and economics. Graduates with this degree will be prepared for the rigors of graduate programs in business, economics, or related fields, or will be prepared to pursue careers in the areas of business and economics. Fire Services Administration EOU offers the Fire Services Administration degree program in a consortium agreement with Western Oregon University, Chemeketa Community College, Portland Community College, and in cooperation with other community colleges and academies. The FSA program is designed to serve practicing fire services professionals seeking administrative credentials for municipal/structural fire departments and agencies. Emergency services professionals whose fields are related to fire services (such as EMS) are also welcome, but must meet all municipal/structural FSA requirements. EOU and WOU do not provide lower division fire science courses. Instead, they alternate sponsorship for upper-division "institutes," or required FSA courses, including "advanced" institutes. Any advanced institute meets the EOU capstone requirement. EOU's FSA program provides all upper division course requirements in both face-to-face and distance delivery modes, and recognizes credit for prior learning at the lower division level and assessment for prior experiential learning at the upper division level. Multidisciplinary Studies with Initial Teaching Licensure This is a teacher licensure program in Early Childhood and Elementary Education (age 3 through grade 8) offered on-site in Coos Bay. The program is known by the acronym CUESTE (pronounced "quest"). Students who have completed the prerequisites for the program will be able to complete a Bachelor's degree and obtain teacher licensure in two years. The program operates on a cohort basis with a new cohort beginning each fall in even numbered years (numbers permitting). Philosophy, Politics and Economics The Philosophy, Politics, and Economics degree integrates broad academic areas in the humanities and the social and behavioral sciences. In this program the disciplines of economics, philosophy, and political science from the intellectual foundations for the exploring critical social problems, the development of social policy, and critical policy analysis. The program applies an interdisciplinary approach to important societal problems, utilizing the contributions of all three disciplines. The strength of the program is that it looks at policy and analysis not just as the economist thinks of it (efficiency) and not just as the political scientist thinks of it (political efficacy), but also by the normative ("ought" or moral/ethical) dimensions that can be more rigorously addressed through philosophy. This program prepares you for a variety of careers or career changes, including, but not limited to: teaching, journalism, criminal justice, public administration, social services, urban planning, banking and finance, and resource management. The program also provides excellent undergraduate preparation if you intend to pursue formal study of law. Psychology The BA/BS in Psychology provides you with a specialized study in psychology within the broader goals of a liberal arts education. The Psychology program promotes an understanding of behavior, provides an understanding of the foundations of psychology as a scientific discipline, integrates the influence of psychology on contemporary thought, and promotes skills in scientific research. The Psychology program is a pre-professional program designed to prepare you for graduate or professional schools as well as for entry-level positions in mental health and social services. Master's in Education This 45-credit hour program is designed for individuals who already hold a teaching license and desire to work towards a Master's degree, though others may apply. The entire program can be completed at a distance; however, Eastern does offer face-to-face courses during summer term for those who are interested. CLICK HERE for more information.
