Programs
Environmental Science The Environmental Sciences degree from OSU involves an interdisciplinary curriculum in basic science, the humanities, and social sciences. The program teaches students about important environmental issues, such as depletion of the ozone layer, greenhouse gases, nuclear waste, acid rain, and pollution. The basic science courses required for this degree (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) must be taken on-site at an accredited institution and must include a lab. Lab courses designed for science majors are preferred and highly recommended. General Agriculture The degree in General Agriculture includes study of a general agriculture curriculum representing all of the departments of the OSU College of Agricultural Sciences. Through this program the student develops leadership and communication skills and learns to identify the agricultural career most suitable for the individual student. This program requires prerequisites, including a full year of biology and two terms of chemistry - both with labs. These prerequisites can be done at your local institution. Liberal Studies The BA/BS in liberal studies is an interdisciplinary degree offered by the College of Liberal Arts at Oregon State University. By taking classes in the arts, humanities and social sciences, you gain power in critical thinking and problem solving, written and verbal communication skills, an appreciation for great art and literature as well as an understanding of government, economic and social systems. Graduates meet qualifications for careers in education, human services, communications, business, Natural Resources A major in Natural Resources will provide the student with knowledge in areas such as land use and water resources and teach them about environmental policy and cultural resources. Elementary Education OSU offers a primarily distance based Master's degree in Education qualifying students for initial teaching licensure in Elementary Education. While most of the coursework for this program is available online, students are required to spend one weekend per term on-site at OSU. Student teaching experience can be arranged in the student's home area with a local supervisor and host teacher. Radiation Health Physics Ranked in the top 15, OSU's Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics offer graduate degrees in Radiation Health Physics. Doctoral candidates must currently meet the residency requirements of the Graduate School to complete their degrees. Adult Education This is a part-time Master's program providing experience in workplace and adult skills development, organizational development and training, and workforce development. This program is site-based at Chemeketa Community College in Salem and meets three times per year off site. A new cohort begins each fall term. Mentored Master's in Education Designed to foster the professional growth of teachers in K-12 early in their careers, the Mentored Master's program is a completely online 45-credit hour program to help make teachers into informed practitioners, reflective researchers, and professional leaders and advocates. Community College Leadership This executive doctoral level degree program is site-based at Silver Falls State Park in Salem and meets there three times per term for weekend intensives. The program prepares experienced community college faculty and administrators for senior-level community college leadership. In addition to the dissertation, components include three terms of full-time graduate work (usually completed at the Corvallis campus during the summer) and an individually designed internship. Sustainable Natural Resource Graduate Certificate Offered in cooperation with the College of Forestry, this certificate program is designed for individuals seeking additional training in the integrated management of natural resources. The program makes use of assignments, field trips, and an independent project and consists of eleven online courses.
